This is the March issue of the monthly Youth Update. The update includes information about what is going on in regards to the active youth ministry at First United Methodist Church. You are invited to take part in any of the activities and events listed in this update, whether you are a youth participant or an adult sponsor. Listed below are some of the activities planned for March:

Gamers’ Party

On Wednesday March 27^th at 6:00 pm the youth group will be having a gamers’ party night. There will be pizza and drinks and some snacks provided, but youth will also be asked to bring their favorite snacks. Activities for that evening will include playing various video games on the WII and Playstation 3 gaming consoles. Games that are rated “M” or contain violence and graphic situations will not be allowed. This will be considered a youth fun night.

Election of Youth Officers

In February, youth group members voted on this year’s group officers. The seats that youth voted on included Youth President, Vice President, and Treasurer. The results of the election are as follows:

President – Kaylee Southern
Vice President – Josh Campbell
Treasurer – Angel Campbell

This year, these individuals will maintain responsibilities that include leadership and representing the youth group in various ways.

Souperbowl of Caring Foodraiser Results

During the month of January, youth took part in the Souperbowl Sunday foodraiser. Nearly 300 non-perishable food items were collected and distributed to the Reno County food bank, and our church pantry. It is a blessing that the youth get to organize and partake in ministries such as this one; and it is our hope that we get the opportunity to partake in other similar ministries throughout the year.

Youth Group and Sunday School

Middle and High School age youth are always invited to attend Wednesday night youth group, from 6:15pm to 8:00pm, and Sunday School, at 9:45am. We are always having fun and welcome anyone to join in with us whether or not they attend regularly.

Valentine’s Day Party

On Wednesday February 13^th at 6:00 pm the youth group will be having a Valentine’s party night. There will be pizza and drinks and some snacks provided, but youth will also be asked to bring their favorite snacks. Activities for that evening will include games and a lesson. This will be considered a youth fun night.

Souperbowl Sunday

During the month of January, youth have been taking part in the Souperbowl Sunday foodraiser. Food collected in this charity event will go towards the Reno County food bank, and our church pantry. Baskets that the youth have set out in the church’s Narthex have already been filling up with food. This ministry will end February Third.

Listed below are some of the activities planned for January:

January Game Night

On Wednesday January 2^nd at 6:00 pm the youth group will be having a Game night. There will be some drinks and snacks provided, but youth will also be asked to bring their favorite snacks. This will be considered a youth fun night. However, parents are encouraged to come as well.

Election of Youth Officers

Starting in January the youth group will be choosing leaders among their peers to be elected as youth officers. Positions to be filled are Youth President, Vice President, and Treasurer. This changing of the guard encourages responsibility and maturity among youth group members. The election will take place the last Wednesday of January. If you are interested in becoming a youth officer, please attend Youth Group and Sunday School regularly during the month of January to make sure you stay on the ballot.

Souperbowl Sunday

During the month of January, youth will be preparing to take part in the Souperbowl Sunday foodraiser. Food collected in this charity event will go towards the food bank, soup kitchen, and our church pantry. Youth will be asked to participate by making announcements, manning the food collection, and organizing donations.

Youth Group and Sunday School

Holiday Fundraiser

During the month of December­, the Youth Group will be doing a Holiday Fundraiser. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards a local ministry, such as the soup kitchen, as we near the holiday season. Youth will be asked to participate in the fundraiser by being present at church on Sundays and Wednesdays to come up with ideas and make announcements for the fundraiser. One of the fundraisers will be making and selling holiday blankets and Christmas ornaments.

November Movie Night

On Wednesday November 14^th at 6:00 pm the youth group will have a movie night to “break-in” the new projector purchased in October. There will be some drinks and snacks provided, but youth will also be asked to bring their favorite snacks. This will be considered a youth fun night. However, parents are encouraged to come as well.

Near the end of November, the Youth Group will be doing a Holiday Fundraiser. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards a local ministry, such as the soup kitchen, as we near the holiday season. Youth will be asked to participate in the fundraiser by being present at church on Sundays and Wednesdays to come up with ideas and make announcements for the fundraiser. A couple of ideas that have been shared so far are making and selling holiday blankets and selling Christmas ornaments.
