This Sunday is a special one… our annual Christmas Music Sunday! Come sing Christmas Carols and listen to our Chancel Choir bring us the Christmas story through scripture and song– reenacted by our church’s children!
One word of warning… this year’s telling of the story will be a little different, told from the viewpoint of the innkeeper– a man who is utterly fed up with how busy the season is.
See you Sunday… you won’t want to miss it!
Christmas Eve Worship Schedule
Christmas Eve is on a Sunday this year, and that means a blessedly busy day for FUMC Worship! In order to keep our staff and volunteers from working quite as long on Christmas Eve, we are going to combine our morning worship services into one 10:55 service. (It will be at 10:55 so we will still go out over the radio.) That service will be a normal Sunday morning service, not a candlelight Christmas Eve service.
Then, in the evening, we will have two services at 5pm and 11pm. Both will celebrate the coming of God into the world through Christ Jesus with Christmas carols, the telling of the story, and of course candlelight while singing Silent Night. The 5pm service will be especially family friendly while 11pm will use pipe organ and also include Communion.
There’s no better time to bring a friend to worship, sharing the hope and welcome you’ve received. They will be moved by an experience of God’s presence!
Christmas Eve Volunteers Needed
There are many opportunities for you to help with these services. We need song leader (11pm), candle lighters (11pm), video operator (5pm), sound board operators (5 &11), and ushers (5 & 11). Please contact Lisa Dale and let her know where you can help. Thank you in advance for your commitment to help!
Time for Disciple IV!
First United Methodist Church will offer DISCIPLE 4 Bible Studies starting in January, meeting weekly until the end of May, taking a break for summer, and starting back up in September for those wanting to have a better understanding of the bible. We invite you to join this study if you have already completed Disciple 1 Bible Studies! If you have not ever taken Disciple Bible Study before, you will need to start with Disciple I.
DISCIPLE IV: UNDER THE TREE OF LIFE, the final study in the four-phase DISCIPLE program, concentrates on the Writings (Old Testament books not in the Torah or the Prophets), the Gospel of John, and Revelation. Emphasis on the Psalms as Israel’s hymnbook and prayer book leads natural to an emphasis on worship in the study. Present throughout the entire study is the sense of living toward completion––toward the climax of the message and the promise, extravagantly pictured in the Revelation. The image of the tree and the color gold emphasize the prod and promise in the Scriptures for DISCIPLE: UNDER THE TREE OF LIFE. The word Under in the title is meant to convey invitation, welcome, sheltering, security, and rest––home at last.
The cost of the study book is $40. Scholarships are available to those needing help with the expense. Please let Lisa Dale in the church office know if you would like to take the study.
Don’t forget to support our Hope Houses, the colorful boxes on the west side of our building! Bring anything to leave for anyone to take.
Have you linked your Dillons Plus card with the church? If you do, a portion of all your normal purchases will go to support our ministries! http://www.dillons.com/communityrewards” target=”_self” title=”” style=”word-wrap: break-word;-ms-text-size-adjust: 100%;-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;color: #6DC6DD;font-weight: normal;text-decoration: underline;”>You can set it up by clicking here or contact the office if you’d like help.
