This week we hear one of the most amazing stories of Jesus’ life: The Transfiguration.
Jesus went up a mountain with a couple of his disciples. While he was there he started glowing with light and everyone heard the voice of God. It was incredible!
But the bigger truth is that “transfiguration” isn’t about visible light so much as it’s about BEING light for the dark places of the world. Come this Sunday to be in awe of Jesus’ Transfiguration and to learn how YOU can be an agent of transfiguration wherever you are!
(We worship at 8:30 and 10:55 or 11:05 on KWBW)
Children’s Ministry Annual Chili and Soup Contest
February 18th After Church
Entries Submission Form due February 11
This year, we’re adding a twist! Instead of a panel of judges, the church will decide on a winner by popular vote. Church members may buy 25 votes for $5. Then each member attending may divide their votes as they see fit. The entry with the most votes wins! Bribery and bargaining are NOT off limits!
Ash Wednesday – February 14
Come Wednesday, February 14 at 6pm for our Ash Wednesday Service. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, the season of the Christian year where we prepare ourselves for the celebration of resurrection by making a serious effort to live better, more holy lives. The service that begins it that evening is one of the most moving of the year as we receive the sign of the cross on our foreheads (or the back of your hand if you prefer) as we’re reminded “From ashes you have come and to ashes you shall return.” It is a stark reminder of the truth of life, to be sure, but it leads us to the deep truth of what God can do through a pile of ashes like us. Don’t miss it! Childcare provided.
SpiritGroup Lenten Study: We Can Be Better
This year for Lent, Pastor Jeff will be focusing on a new sermon series entitled “We Can Be Better,” and he has invited our study groups to participate! This study will examine our Methodist roots and what our founder, John Wesley, recommended for self-improvement, and why. It’s a great opportunity to join a group and learn more about your denominational history, but also a time to reflect on our own lives and where we put God on our priority list. If you are already a part of a home group, great! Your leader will be contacting you soon. If you have never tried SpiritGroups or don’t have a current group, a new starter group is forming at the church on Wednesday evenings at 5:30-6:30pm led by Anna Borders, and there is the potential for another day group if there is interest as well. Please contact Anna with any questions, or fill out an interest form from the bulletin and return it to the office. Thanks!
We’re launching something new at FUMC… live video streaming on the internet! Building on our radio ministry, the 10:55 service will be streamed live on our website every Sunday. It’ll include video as well as audio. Plus, the recording will be added as soon as the service is over. So, if you have to miss a week that you were especially excited about, you can catch up by watching it later! Perhaps most importantly, though, someone thinking about visiting our church will be able to get a preview of what it’s like and feel even more welcome when they come.
Don’t forget to support our Hope Houses, the colorful boxes on the west side of our building! Bring anything to leave for anyone to take.
Have you linked your Dillons Plus card with the church? If you do, a portion of all your normal purchases will go to support our ministries! You can set it up by clicking here or contact the office if you’d like help.
Come, invite others to the Ash Wednesday Service February 14th at 6pm.
