Weekly Update

This Sunday: Oh, Behave

Do you have any bad habits?

Ok, let’s get right to it… if we asked your friends or spouse if you had any bad habits, what would THEY say?

Last week we started our Lenten series, admitting that “We Can Be Better.” This week we go right to the heart, asking where we need to improve our own behavior. After all, Jesus said not to be so worried about the speck in another person’s eye until you’ve dealt with the LOG in your own!

No worries, though… remember that God helps us improve all things. So have heart, be honest, and let’s improve together. Join us Sunday!

SpiritGroup Lenten Study

This year as we reflect on our lives during Lent, Pastor Jeff has invited us to participate in a SpiritGroup companion study for his sermon series, We Can Be Better. This is a study developed by lay-members of our church that focuses on our humanity and traditions, where God fits in our day-to-day lives, and on improving ourselves and our world.

This week, Jeff’s sermon on Sunday (February 18th) explored 2 Peter 1:3-11 and went in depth about what it means to “do better” as a Christian, and why we should want to. Who do you want to be when you “grow up?” What attributes make a person “good?” Who is an example of someone who stands out because of their goodness? Study the scripture and pray for improvement in whatever ways God is speaking to your heart, and even if you can’t be a part of SpiritGroups, remember to pray for each other, the church, and the world!

There are still lots of opportunities to join a participating group: Sunday School classes, Wednesday day and evening studies, and home groups.  If you have questions or would like to join a study, please contact Anna Borders or Pastor Jeff.

Blood Pressure Checks This Sunday!

The Health & Hospitality Team will host blood pressure checks this Sunday, February 25th from 9:30 to 10:30am in the Health & Hospitality Room #103.  This month is heart health month and what better way to check on your heart by having your blood pressure checked! Come by yourself or come with a friend!  The main thing is that you keep tabs on your heart health!

Chili wrap-up and thank you

The Soup and Chili Supper was a remarkable success! It has grown every year, but this year was truly remarkable. We ended up with thirteen entries and some wonderful desserts, too! It was difficult to get an exact count of how many people came, ate, and voted, but we’re certain it was over one hundred!

Thanks to all who participated and all who enjoyed. All the proceeds this year went to our scholarship fund. If you’re sorry you missed it, remember you can donate at any time!

Other Blessings
  • Pantry Needs: Spaghetti sauce, canned tuna (with pull tab to open), breakfast bars, fruit snack packs, canned fruit, canned vegetables, crackers, peanut butter, pancake mix & syrup.
  • Don’t forget to support our Hope Houses, the colorful boxes on the west side of our building! Bring anything to leave for anyone to take.
  • Have you linked your Dillons Plus card with the church? If you do, a portion of all your normal purchases will go to support our ministries! You can set it up by clicking here or contact the office if you’d like help.

Thanks to all who helped make the Soup and Chili Cookoff such a big success!
