Weekly Update for April 5, 2018

Weekly Update

This Sunday: Unafraid

We all experience a measure of anxiety, worry, or fear in our lives. We may fear heights, or spiders, or speaking in public. We worry about our kids, careers, money, or health. Sometimes we fear those who are different; we fear the future, rejection, aging, or our own mortality. Among the most frequently repeated statements in all of scripture is, “Do not be afraid.” But how do we overcome worry, anxiety, and fear? How can we live unafraid, fearless?

Join us this Sunday as we explore the most common worries and fears experienced by Americans today, consider practical steps for overcoming these fears, and reflect upon fear in the light of scripture and a faith that promises again and again that we don’t need to live in fear, but instead with courage and hope.

Balance Class/Wonderful Wednesday/Third Service

Come at 5:30pm this Wednesday, April 11th to participate in the Balance Class the Health & Hospitality Team is hosting in Fellowship Hall. Our instructor is Joyce Conard!  Then, stay and join us for Wonderful Wednesday/Third Service at 6pm in Friendship Place. We will meet each Wednesday in April with a covered dish meal and a different speaker each week. This week’s speaker is Amy Slater! Come with a friend and enjoy the food, fun, fellowship & faith!

Fair Priced Clothing Store

It’s time once again for First United Methodist Church to be in charge of the Fair Priced Clothing Store on Wednesdays & Fridays from 9am to 3pm and on Saturdays from 9am to Noon the whole month of April.  If you’d like to help out, please just show up during those times, even if it’s only for an hour! We appreciate all the help we can get!

Easter Thanks

This is Pastor Jeff writing… I just want to say a special word of thanks for last Sunday. Easter is always a joyous time and a celebration. But this year we had an especially high number of visitors and were able to share that joy widely. So, thank you to everyone who came and especially to everyone who volunteered to make it happen. If you had to miss the service, don’t forget it’s online at fumhutch.org/video. Plus, as they say, “Every Sunday is a mini-Easter.” You can be part of the next celebration in just a few days!

Other Blessings
  • We give thanks for the life of Francis Nichols. (Her obituary has not yet been published.)
  • Pantry Needs: Spaghetti sauce, canned tuna (with pull tab to open), breakfast bars, fruit snack packs, canned fruit, canned vegetables, crackers, peanut butter, pancake mix & syrup.
  • Don’t forget to support our Hope Houses, the colorful boxes on the west side of our building! Bring anything to leave for anyone to take.
  • Have you linked your Dillons Plus card with the church? If you do, a portion of all your normal purchases will go to support our ministries! You can set it up by clicking here or contact the office if you’d like help.

The new sermon series is especially welcoming to newcomers. Who can you bring?
