Weekly Update

Unafraid: The Sky Is Falling

Are you fearful for the direction our world is headed? If so, you’re not alone! Fear is the one thing both Republicans and Democrats have in common these days.

Yet, our faith teaches us something very different. The affairs of this world matter, let there be no doubt about that. The problem is that sometimes we forget how much bigger God is than any of it. If God promises good for us, then why do we keep running around like Chicken Little, getting each other worked up about how the sky is falling?

Join us this Sunday as we discuss politics– but not in the way you think. Join us to talk about how a Christian ought to respond to the fear we see in the news these days, focusing on the God of love who calls us to something higher. Come learn a better, more human way to be!

Basket Auction

Children’s ministry is hosting a basket auction to raise funds for classroom repairs.  In this album on Facebook, you’ll find pictures of the repairs needed and our baskets ready for bids.  Bids can be placed by commenting on a picture, contacting Miss Shaelee, or in the Narthex at the church.  winners will be announced May 20th at the All-Church Dinner.  Share with your friends–winners do not have to be members!!

Scholarship Applications

Any college student interested in a church scholarship must obtain a scholarship application from the church office.  Application deadline is June 1st. Questions?  Call 960-3249.

Giving Thanks for Allen Polen

Rev. Allen Polen was FUMC’s Pastor from 1994-2001. He passed away last week and I know many are giving thanks for his life and ministry and praying for his family. His service will be Saturday at 10am in Winfield; you can read his obituary by clicking here.

Other Blessings
  • You are invited to come help Kristina Perez and family celebrate her graduation with a party on Saturday, May 12th from 1 to 3pm in the Parlor.
  • Pantry Needs: Spaghetti sauce, canned tuna (with pull tab to open), breakfast bars, fruit snack packs, canned fruit, canned vegetables, crackers, peanut butter, pancake mix & syrup.
  • Don’t forget to support our Hope Houses, the colorful boxes on the west side of our building! Bring anything to leave for anyone to take.
  • Have you linked your Dillons Plus card with the church? If you do, a portion of all your normal purchases will go to support our ministries! You can set it up by clicking here or contact the office if you’d like help.

We’re talking politics this Sunday, but don’t be afraid– we’ll ask what a loving Christian response is!
