Worst Case Scenario: The Story of Mary & Martha

What happens when your worst fears actually do come true?

We’ve been talking about fear for many weeks, seeing how the vast majority of our worries are needless, the fear itself causing more harm than good. But there’s one last topic, and it’s an important one: what about those rare, rare times when our worst fears really do come true? What are we to do when tragedy hits our lives: the surprise loss of a loved one or a medical diagnosis perhaps?

The Good News of Jesus is Good in this case, too, for it’s in tragedy that God does his best work! This Sunday we’ll hear the story of when Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, who found themselves in a true “worst case scenario” moment. Wait until you hear how the story ends! (Read ahead if you want, it’s in John 11!)

Going Deeper Class

Would you like to become more involved in church? Would you like to go deeper in your faith?

If so, there is a great opportunity coming up, specifically aimed for you! It’s a “Going Deeper Class.” Each one will start with Pastor Jeff teaching a little about what it means to be United Methodist– what is “grace,” for instance? Then the second half will invite a different guest each week to talk about how to become more involved, topics like what a blessing it can be to volunteer or serve the poor.

If you’d like to join us even for part of it, you are welcome! Join us this Sunday at 9:45 in the Chapel, then again on June 24 and July 1. (We’ll skip June 17.)

Giving Garden: the Garden that Keeps On Giving

Starting Sunday, June 10th, there will be a table in the Narthex each week where persons can bring extra fruits/vegetables from their gardens to share with others at church.  Extra produce that will not stay good from one Sunday to the next will be taken out into the community to share. This is a summer project of the Health & Hospitality Team.
