After spending time with the story of Jesus’ “Longest Week,” we’ve finally come to the REAL Palm Sunday! This Sunday’s service will begin with joyous shouts of “Hosanna!” and begin the annual telling of Jesus’ story. As usual the service will be full of music with our choir working especially hard to present most of it. We’ll receive Communion in both services and in second service we’ll also have our children singing with SpiritFirst and waving palm branches– if you normally come to first service, feel free to stick around just for that!
Then, NEXT Friday, April 14, come at 6:30pm to remember Good Friday. It should be an especially powerful service this year since we’ve spent the season learning and growing in the scriptures that will be read.
If you’re unable to come that evening, another option is a community-wide service at noon at Park Place Christian Church, 27th and Adams. There will also be a community choir singing– if you’re interested in joining them talk to Kylie Mick or Pastor Jeff.
Easter Sunday, Egg Hunt
But of course the story isn’t over until the empty tomb on Easter! Pastor Jeff is planning a service that will be good for everyone but especially newcomers. Is there someone you’ve thought about inviting to church? Don’t just invite them, BRING them so they don’t have to come alone!
Plus, The youth are putting on an Easter egg hunt for the children on Easter Sunday after second service. They are taking donations of eggs and candy in the narthex. Any and all donations are appreciated. Bring a bunch this Sunday so they’ll have enough!
Mission Project Opportunities
Last Sunday Pastor Jeff challenged everyone in the church to be engaged in face to face service to those in need. The life of faith isn’t just about doing “pious” things like attending worship, praying, and studying scripture. You can’t grow in God without also caring for those in need– because that’s where God is most easily found! Last Sunday we had a special guest for our Mission Moment, Holly Thomas from Interfaith Housing Services. She and others at IHS are full of great ideas for ways to service if you don’t already have ideas
Stay alert for how God is calling you to help! And if you didn’t have a chance to talk to Holly after last Sunday’s service, give her a call! (Or contact Anna Borders or Pastor Jeff if you prefer.)
Fair Price Clothing Store Grand Re-Opening
The Fair Price Clothing Store is a thrift store especially geared to help those in need. It’s a combined ministry of all the United Methodist churches in Hutchinson. It’s been on west 4th Ave. for a long time but has just finished relocating to 15 W. Ave. B, closer to downtown. They always appreciate donations of gently used clothing, towels, bedding, etc.
During April’s Third Thursday event we’re going to have a grand re-opening celebration! Come downtown on April 20 to celebrate! Our church has volunteered to provide packaged cookies, so please bring them soon so we’ll know we’ll have enough!
Have you linked your Dillons Plus card with the church? If you do, a portion of all your normal purchases will go to support our ministries! You can set it up by clicking here or contact the office if you’d like help.
