Weekly Update

This Sunday: Hope from Our Past

Have you ever heard the story of the Methodists on the frontier? They were remarkable people whose faith kept them going even though their life’s journey was nothing but tough.

This Sunday we’ll re-tell that story. Our church’s beginning nearly 150 years ago is a part of that– if you haven’t heard our own grasshopper story you’ll love it!

More than that, come and be inspired. Most of us don’t have it as hard as those early Methodists, but I promise that their faith will give you HOPE for your own journey as well. See you there!

(Oh, and the picture above? The grasshopper statue in Ave. A Park? You’ll never spot it, but our steeple is in the background!)

Welcome Back Dinner

In the United Methodist Church, Pastors are sent to congregations for one year at a time, usually starting on July 1. Because of that there’s a yearly tradition of having a welcome celebration each year. We are glad to have Pastor Jeff, Amy, Ricky, and Sam officially with us for another year, so join us on July 16 after second service to celebrate the fact! Fried chicken will be provided, so bring a side dish or dessert if you’re able.

Boy’s fishing trip

We are heading to Nickerson for our second annual Boys ONLY fishing trip on July 15. Boys of all ages interested in food, fishing, and fellowship are welcome. We will meet at the church at 2:30 to caravan to the lease and return to the church at 7:00 PM. Fishing licenses are not necessary and a meal will be provided. Please let Shaelee Mendenhall (960-3249) know if you are planning to attend so we can plan accordingly!

Vacation Bible School is fast approaching! Please join us July 24-28 on the East Side of the building for Maker Fun Factory games, bible stories, and songs. This year we’ve added dinner for all present and hope it will increase attendance. 6-8:30 PM Limited bus transportation is available. Please call 662-2386 to register.

Bike/Hike & Watermelon Feed

Come, join is for the Bike/Hike & Watermelon Feed on Sunday, July 23rd from 6 to 7pm in Carey Park. We will meet at the playground area across the street from the Zoo & Golf course, near the ball field. Come for the exercise, the socializing, and the fun! This event is sponsored by our Health & Hospitality Team.
